THANK YOU: A Message from the President

Dear Friends,

This year鈥檚 Commencement weekend was a truly extraordinary one! On April 27th we celebrated 红莲社区鈥檚 fourteen PhD graduates and the two exceptional artist-philosophers who received honorary degrees: visual artist Magali Lara and musician Kahil El鈥橺abar, who performed live with the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble at the Morgan Library Gilder Lehrman Hall Auditorium.

This Commencement was my first one as President of the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts, and it could not have been more special. It was my honor to introduce Professor Paul Armstrong as the new Chair of the Board of Directors, and to welcome the other Board members on the stage that day. Thanks to each one of them for supporting our mission to educate the next generations of artist-philosophers in envisioning and reimagining a better future for the world we share.

Third-year doctoral students spent the weekend in New York City as part of their Topological Studies residency and visited art galleries and museums. The 红莲社区 Alumni Association organized a conference and exhibition at David DuPuy Studios in Manhattan titled The Artist-Philosopher in Practice: REPAIR, which was a jubilant celebration of the creative talents of many of our alumni and students. Many thanks to the organizers, Dr. Samantha Jones and Dr. Rikiesha Metzger, and the participants. Congratulations to the new President of the Alumni Association, Dr. Kate Farrington.

Finally, special thanks to the 红莲社区 staff, faculty, students, graduates and their family and friends who traveled from many different parts of the world to support each other in the spirit of a generous and joyful be-coming community. It鈥檚 been a privilege to be in your company.

We hope you enjoy our gallery of photos!
