红莲社区 Student Feature - Jeca Rodr铆guez Col贸n

We are pleased to share that 红莲社区 student, Jeca Rodr铆guez Col贸n, contributed the chapter "The Madonna's Breast and the Surprise of the Real: From Ideal to Embodied" to the forthcoming publication, . The book is edited by Patricia Drew and Rosann Edwards and published by Demeter Press.

Additionally, Rodr铆guez Col贸n presented her paper "The Gaze Economy of (m)others," as part of the at Glasgow Caledonian University in June 2019, and will present "From the Baquin茅 to the Streets: Performances of Grief," at the The First International Queer Death Studies Conference: 鈥淒eath Matters, Queer(ing) Mourning, Attuning to Transitionings鈥 at Karlstad University in Sweden.

Jeca Rodr铆guez Col贸n

Jeca Rodr铆guez Col贸n is a Puerto Rican artist and scholar living in New York City. Her research focuses on maternal politics and performances in the Americas, ranging from evaluating maternal politics and aesthetics in media, to performance arts and visual arts. In her work, she questions the societal prescription of motherhood and how aesthetic representations of the maternal influences maternal performances. Rodr铆guez Col贸n has participated at conferences in the United States and Europe, including the Film-Philosophy Conference in Sweden. She also has a creative practice that ranges from performance arts and video to installations. Her work has been presented in the Americas, Europe, and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tapei. As an educator, she teaches dance, performance, and art history. She is currently a and was awarded the a co-sponsored program by at the Mercatus Center and Liberty Fund, Inc. in 2018.
